Digital television and services, such as on demand pay per view programming, can now be accessed by MTA’s member-owners via the same DSL line that already delivers voice and data. By the end of 2003, MTA plans to roll out the video service to approximately 18,000 member-owners over 33,000 access lines using the Nimbra platform as its transport backbone. By combining 100% QoS with maximum network utilization and multicast, Net Insight provides MTA’s network with superior efficiency.
"The Net Insight system is extremely efficient, which allows us to economically deliver services to our member-owners in Alaska even before these services are available in most major urban areas," said Joe Ortner, Project Engineer of MTA. "From the first day of installation, we´ve been able to deliver high quality video to our member-owners with reliable performance."
MTA deployed the Nimbra platform without significant changes or interruptions to its network. Net Insight´s solutions are based on open standards for seamless inter-working with legacy equipment, enabling a migrational path to better services. The platform also features an automatic control plane, which signifcantly reduces MTA’s OPEX. The solution was delivered in cooperation with Net Insight´s strategic partner, Allied Telesyn.
“MTA has taken a leadership position in providing state of the art services to its member-owners," said Tomas Duffy, CEO of Net Insight. “This deployment underscores Net Insight’s ability to deliver a cost-effective solution for IOCs that want to offer new high-quality services, like broadcast TV and Video-on-Demand, in addition to data and voice.”
Net Insight has already deployed the Nimbra platform at Midwest Tel Net, a consortium of independent operating companies (IOCs) in southern Wisconsin. Broadcasters and cable companies, including ABC and MSNBC, also use the Nimbra platform for reliable, efficient video transport.
