Stockholm, December 20, 2004 – Net Insight (SX: NETI B), a leading provider of video, voice and data networking equipment, announced that one of the major Telco’s in Europe has purchased Net Insight’s Nimbra (TM) platform in order to build a network for digital terrestrial television. The network will be operational during the first half of 2005 and will distribute TV channels from ten broadcasters.
A large number of countries worldwide are planning to migrate to digital terrestrial television (DVB-T or DTT). Among the benefits is the ability to transmit up to four times as many TV channels within the same frequencies and at the same time enhance the picture quality and reduce the cost of distribution. When the digital terrestrial television networks are fully built, the analogue networks will close down.
Net Insight has integrated all interfaces in the Nimbra NG-SDH platform that are needed for digital terrestrial television. This means that one Nimbra switch does the same job that competing solutions need two or more boxes for.
