OC-3/STM-1 Access Module

The OC-3/STM-1 Access Module for the Nimbra One and Nimbra 340 family of products provides seamless service integration and migration for metro networks. The module offers 4 channelized interfaces for transport of any OC-3 / STM-1 compatible services (PDH, POS, ATM etc). Since OC-3 / STM-1 is the de facto universal optical access interface in the service provider community the usability of the Access Module is very widespread. Applications include DSLAM backhaul, POS router interconnect, voice exchange interconnect, interconnect of ATM switches, bridging between existing SDH / SONET networks and distributed cross-connect functionality.
The OC-3/STM-1 Access Module features 4 independent bi-directional ports, using modular Small Formfactor Pluggable (SFP) optics that can be provisioned for different media and distances. The module also supports QoS multicast of OC-3 / STM-1 streams for example for media distribution. The OC-3/STM-1 Access Module terminates transport overhead and has extensive fault and performance management capabilities.
  • Standards compliant SONET/SDH interface
  • 4 or 12 independent channels (4 x STS-3c SPE / VC-4 or 12 x STS-1 SPE) that can be directed to different end destinations
  • Small Formfactor Pluggable (SFP) modules for Intraoffice, Short-haul or Long-haul interfaces
  • 1+1 protection support (optional) with <50ms switching time
  • Multicast support for STS-3c/VC-4 or embedded STS-1 point-to-multipoint distribution services.
  • Hot swapable
  • Web, SNMP, or CLI management

The combination of both OC-3/STM-1, Ethernet and ASI/SDI video accesses in the same Nimbra shelf provides for both a broad service spectrum and for a migration path between telecom and datacom centric carrier strategies. Both the Nimbra One and the Nimbra 300 can handle ATM and IP access over the same infrastructure, both with guaranteed QoS, combined with other services such as video and leased lines.
